 Max Ernst was born on April 2, 1891 in Bruehl, near Cologne, Germany


Ernst studied philosophy, psychology and history of art at the University of Bonn from 1909-1914.


As a child Max was strange and suffered many emotional crises and a few mental collapses

Ernst was married a total of four times: to Luise Straus, Marie-Berthe Aurenche, wealthy art patron Peggy Guggenheim, and the gifted Surrealist artist Dorothea Tanning.
