Erte Biography
Russian-born Art Deco
Era painter Romain de
Tirtoff, was one of the
greatest fashion and
theatrical designers of
the early twentieth
century. He called
himself Erté after the
French pronunciation of
his initials, to
avoid dishonoring the
family name. His
family, especially his
father, were aghast when
he chose a career in the
arts.
Erte moved to Paris and
found employment with
Paul Poiret, mainly
designing opera and
theater costumes. At the
height of the Art Deco
movement he
created many magazine
covers for Harper's
Bazaar. Over a
long and celebrated
career, he had a major
influence on the style
and fashion design of
the 20th century. Require more information about the famous artists Erte the most prominent Russian-born French Art Deco Painter and Theatrical Designer in Art History?
