Gustav Klimt was born in
Baumgarten, Austria. He was
the second of seven
children. Gustav's father
was a failed gold engraver
and could barley keep bread
and soup on the Klimt family
table
Young Gustav attended the
famous Kunstgewerbeschule
(School of Applied Arts) in
Vienna, Austria, when he
just 14 years of age
In 1888, Gustav Klimt
received the "Golden Order
of Merit"
Gustav Awarded Emperor's
Prize in recognition of
Auditorium of the
Burgtheater.
Gustav Klimt's erotic and
sensual paintings were
constantly criticized by
jealous artists and sad sack
art critics.
In 1908 Klimt painted "The
Kiss", an erotic and
ethereal observation of
human sexuality. This is his
most famous painting .
